This evening, we will talk about why countries are exporting?
I am borrowing from the forum of one other teacher here. You will learn how to talk about this matter in your own words though. Learning how to talk is more important than the facts or knowledge of the topic. We just need a topic so we can talk about something in detail. See you tonight!
Exporting is for Profit
Many objectives have been cited for engaging in exporting, particularly at national level. Ultimately however, the most important goal is the earning of profit. If it fails, then other objectives mentioned above will also fail. The profitability of exporting companies depends heavily on the improvement in managerial and professional competence. The activities of production, promotion, and distribution involve significant cost outlays, then must be less than the revenues received from sales. If not, the resources of the companies will be drained away, and it will wither and die. Occasionally a company may accept short term losses in the interest of developinng something new. However, these should be restricted and not allowed to continue indefinitely. The golden rule is that in the medium and the long run the revenues must exceed the costs in order to sustain the company in existence.
Exporting involves risks
Risk of failure is always present for business bodies. Different costs involved in stages of exporting are likely to be quite considerable, and they are incurred in the expectation of producing revenues. However, the market may reject the goods, the product maybe produced too late due to changing tastes and circumstances or the target market maybe the wrong one. Thus for various reasons costs may never be recovered, and many business does not have resources to sustain more than one failure. In the matter of giving credit to customers, they may default, and particularly the financial collapse of a single major customer maybe fatal. Risks of natural disasters e.g. hurricanes and political upheaval are all part of environment of a business which may bring its activities to a sudden and permanent halt. In many countries there are ways of lessening the risks of exporting. The most notable one is insurance. In learning how to trade we must also learn how to avoid the pitfalls.
To sum up, export is vital to the modern society. It may generate great benefits, but it involves risks too. China has to do a good job in exporting in order to better its people's livelihood. For this purpose, we have to make clear why we export and how to export. This seemingly simple question is not understood by all.
