习语 settle for sth退而求其次
to accept sth. that is not completely satisfactory but is the best that is available:

eg: In the end they had to settle for a draw.
最后他们不得不勉强接受平局的结果。

eg: I couldn't afford the house I really wanted, so I had to settle for second best.
我买不起最心仪的房子,只能退而求其次,买了第二好的。

A:    Hey Johnny. I think we cannot afford the trip to Europe.
B:    Yeah, we have to travel on a tight budget. Let's settle for a trip to Thailand     instead.
A:    嘿,强尼。我想我们负担不起去这趟去欧洲的旅行。
